Now Recruiting: Geospatial Analyst and Drone Pilot
We are recruiting a recent University graduate with a strong interest in contemporary issues of climate change, climate mitigation strategies, forest fires and their suppression, and technical ability in Geographic information systems, and strong interest and understanding of sensor and mapping technologies, in particular lidar and radar. and related skills and participating in the field testing of UAV (drone) equipment.
1. Responsibilities - Geospatial
• Fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and high performance, including a team mind-set for investigating the context of forest fires and the interface with Circular’s aerial firefighting technology.
• Create, maintain, interpret, and analyze spatial and non-spatial information primarily involving GIS Software.
• Create paper, electronic, and interactive web maps, online dash boards, and manage data for field purposes, using applications and platforms which include Survey 123, Field Maps, ArcGIS and Google Maps.
• Creating and editing shapefiles, file geodatabases, raster surfaces and other spatial and non-spatial data.
• Create pivot tables and develop criteria-based metrics.
• Research and acquire publicly and privately held data sets.
• Data analysis to support research initiatives.
• A strong interest and understanding of sensor and mapping technologies, in particular lidar, radar and sonar and technologies for GNSS and GPS denied environments.
• Working on Windows Platform and use MS Office suite of applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, SharePoint).
• Project Planning: create and manage comprehensive development plans and schedules, ensuring the timely delivery of project components.
• Foster a culture of integrity, promoting transparency, and honesty in all interactions with the team, the company’s staff and external stakeholders.
• Maintaining ambitious goals for yourself and continuously raising the bar for what is possible.
1.1 Responsibilities – Drone Pilot
• Previous experience using drones in an academic or professional setting.
• Strong understanding of drone safety regulations and best practices.
• A strong interest in the UAV technology and a mind to trouble-shoot technology issues.
2. Qualification and Experience
• Upcoming graduate or graduate in a BSc/BA, or a MSc/MA program in Geography, Computer Science or Geomatics with a concentration in geographic information systems is required.
• A strident accomplishment oriented approach to studies and learning, and the accumulation of technical GIS and geospatial analytical skills.
• Advanced skill in the use of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop application (ArcGIS Pro, Arc Catalog, ArcGIS Online) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience includes python scripting or other scripting/programming languages; using or administering databases; cadastral layers; spatial analysis and design; and cartographic design.
• Studies in forestry and or forest fire ecology are valued.
• Ability to produce high quality, memos, reports and written communication.
• Confident in their ability to reach out and engage with industry, government and the research community to discuss ideas and access data sets and other relevant information.
• Valid Transport Canada Drone Pilot Certification – Advanced Operations (required)
• Able to travel and work in the field for periods of time (one to several weeks)
